Michael Sim Thiam Poh is the chief instructor of Hayashi-Ha Shitoryu-kai
Karate-do Singapore and hold a Blackbelt 5th dan in Hayashi-ha
Shitoryu Karate. Shihan Sim is also a qualified National Referee
A for Karate and a certified Asian Karate-do Federation (AKF)
Judge B.
In
1986, Shihan Sim represented Singapore in the 8th World Union
of Karate-do Organisation (WUKO) Tournment held in Australia and
was ranked No. 6 for the weight category which he competed in.
In 1997, Shihan Sim was a member of the National Karate Squad
and represented Singapore in the 19th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games
held at Jakarta, Indonesia. And in year 2001, he was the National
Karate Coach for the 21st SEA Games held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Shihan Sim has been coaching Karate in Singapore since 1985. He
is a certified Karate coach.under the Singapore Sport Council
NROC (National Registry Of Coach) scheme. Over the years, Shihan
Sim has trained many karatekas. Thomas Yit Poh Sum, Newman and
Edmund Sim were among his pioneer batch of Hayashi-ha Shitoryu-kai
blackbelters.
Shihan
Michael Sim is presently coaching Karate at Marine Parade Community
Club, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, ITE College East and Home TeamNS-JOM
Club House.

* “Shihan” is a Japanese title meaning “master
instructor”. In many Japanese Karate style, a instructor
become a Shihan when he attained the rank of blackbelt 5th dan
and above
