LTC(Ret) Paul Ooi

Master
Paul Ooi is a qualified and registered Martial Arts instructor.
He is also an Activity Instructor in Self-Defence under Peoples’
Association.
Master
Ooi started martial arts training at an early age in Penang. He
was initially trained in Northern Shaolin styles, which include
Seven-star Tanglang and Tantui. He studied Classical Jujitsu during
his high school days in Penang and Kodokan Judo while at the University
of London. In later years, he concentrated his study in internal
martial arts and self-defence system. The internal martial arts
he learned include Xingyi Quan, Yang and Chen styles Taiji Quan,
Qigong and Neigong. Many of his instructors were renounced martial
arts masters were from Malaysia and China. They include:
- The late Master Li Tian Ji, a renounced Beijing Xingyi and
Taiji master
- Master Feng Zhi Qiang of Beijing, called Combat Taiji Master
by the Black Belt Magazine
- Master Chu Tian Chai of He Nan, a Chen Taiji expert from
Chen Jia Gou the birth place of Chen Style Taiji
- Master Chen Xiao Wang of He Nan, a direct descendant of
Chen Taiji Family
- Master Yang Zhen Duo of Shan Xi, a direct descendant of
Yang Style Taiji family
- Master Liu Wan Fu, a Heng Quan and Xingyi Quan expert from
Tian Jin, China
- The late Master Panther Kam of Kuala Lumpur
- Master Lu Tong Bao of Penang, a disciple of the later Yang
Style Grand Master Zhen Man Qing of Taiwan
- Sensei John Brown of Kodokan Judo, London
Mater
Paul Ooi has conducted small group training, private tuition and
seminars to promote this system on part time basis for more than
15 years.
Master
Ooi is an electrical engineer by training. He served more than
20 years in the republic of Singapore Air Force and Ministry of
Defence as a Senior Military Engineering Officer. He actively
promotes practical martial arts after his retirement from the
service. He serves in the management committee of Singapore Martial
Arts Instructors Association (SMAIA), was once the General Secretary
of SMAIA and has served many years as committee members in Singapore
National Wushu Federation (SNWF).
